DIESEL ENGINE
GENERATOR SETS
In the power system, generators work in conjunction with numerous other devices to ensure stable power supply. The following are their specific methods:
Collaborate with transformers
The electrical energy generated by the generator is usually output at a lower voltage and needs to be boosted by a step-up transformer to reduce energy loss during transmission.
Transformers can also distribute electrical energy to power grids of different voltage levels, meeting the needs of different users.
Collaboration with transmission lines
The boosted electrical energy is transmitted over long distances through transmission lines. The generator needs to adjust its output power and voltage according to the capacity and loss characteristics of the transmission line to ensure efficient and stable transmission of electrical energy to the load center.
The distribution parameters of transmission lines can affect power quality. The generator adjusts the output voltage and frequency in real time based on feedback from the line through devices such as automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) to compensate for line losses and maintain power quality.
Collaborate with reactive power compensation equipment
The generator generates or absorbs reactive power while producing active power. In order to maintain voltage stability in the power system, it is necessary to work in conjunction with reactive power compensation equipment.
When the reactive power of the system is insufficient, the generator can increase the reactive power output. At the same time, reactive power compensation equipment such as Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) will also be put into operation to inject reactive power into the system and increase the system voltage level.
Collaborate with relay protection equipment
Relay protection equipment monitors the operating status of generators and other equipment in the power system in real time. When a fault or abnormality occurs, it quickly sends a signal to trip the circuit breaker of the generator, cutting off the faulty equipment from the system to protect the generator and other equipment from damage and prevent the fault from expanding.
The generator is also equipped with various protection devices inside, such as differential protection, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, etc., which cooperate with the relay protection equipment of the system to achieve comprehensive protection of the generator.
Collaborate with the power grid dispatch automation system
The power grid dispatch automation system collects real-time operating parameters of generators, such as power, voltage, frequency, etc., as well as operating information of other equipment in the power system through communication networks.
According to the system load demand and operating status, the dispatch automation system sends instructions to the generator through automatic generation control (AGC) function, adjusts the output of the generator, and achieves active power balance and frequency stability of the power system.
