In the field of heavy-duty trucks, diesel engines have many significant advantages.
Firstly, from the perspective of power performance. Diesel engines have high torque output, especially in the low-speed range. Heavy trucks require strong traction when starting, climbing, or towing heavy objects. Diesel engines can output large torque at lower speeds, such as providing sufficient power at engine speeds of 1000-1500 revolutions per minute. This allows heavy trucks to easily cope with complex road conditions under full load, such as when climbing hills in mountainous areas, they can move steadily and powerfully without experiencing a lack of power.
Secondly, in terms of fuel economy, diesel engines perform well. Due to the relatively high energy density of diesel, the same volume of diesel can release more energy than gasoline. For heavy-duty trucks used for long-distance transportation, this means reducing the number of refueling times and lowering transportation costs. For example, in a long-distance transportation of thousands of kilometers, the fuel consumption cost of a diesel engine may be saved by about 30% compared to vehicles of the same type that use gasoline engines.
Furthermore, diesel engines have stronger reliability and durability. Its structure is relatively simple and sturdy, because diesel engines do not have vulnerable components such as spark plugs, so the probability of failure is relatively low in complex working conditions, such as long-term high-speed driving or working in harsh environments. Heavy trucks often need to face long and high-intensity transportation tasks, and diesel engines can withstand such work intensity to ensure the continuous operation of the vehicle.
From a safety perspective, diesel has a higher flash point and is less prone to volatilization and combustion compared to gasoline. This to some extent reduces the risk of fire and explosion, especially for large transportation vehicles such as heavy trucks. Safety during transportation is crucial, and the use of diesel engines can increase the safety of vehicle operation.
In addition, in terms of range, the excellent fuel economy of diesel engines and the high energy density of diesel make the range of heavy-duty trucks longer. In some remote areas or with long transportation routes, there is no need to frequently search for gas stations, which can effectively improve transportation efficiency.
